The Queen Anne Inn
Step Back Into The Past

Victorian Getaway

Just imagine living on West Washington Street about 90 years ago. The industrialists, James Oliver and Clement Studebaker, would have been your neighbors. Their huge mansions were very prominent and often used for many parities and celebrations. In addition, many other important citizens lived in the area. We'd like to introduce you to a great heritage.

You are invited to spend a night at the Queen Anne Inn in the original home of Mabel Good. This house in not quite as opulent as the home of the Studebakers or the Olivers but it has a wonderful cozy feeling of the past. Fortunately, no one has taken away the exquisite bookcases. In fact, we are quite sure that Mr. Good would recognize this as HOME. Of course we'll provide a full breakfast in the morning.

During your stay you will enjoy dinner at Tippecanoe Place, the former Studebaker mansion, just three doors away. The restaurant is noted for prime rib and spinach salad, but you will also enjoy a wide variety of entrees, appetizers and desserts. This is a nonsmoking environment.

Of course, you will want to tour the The Studebaker National Museum that portrays the Studebaker business from the early Conestoga wagons which used to carry goods to the West to the last automobiles such as the Lark. Of particular interest is the carriage in which Lincoln rode to the theatre the night of his assassination.

You won't want to miss the tour of the Copshaholm, the name given to the Oliver mansion. The wonderful preservation of the mansion makes this one of the best house museums in the Midwest. You can almost see the family living in the home. All of the artifacts, furniture, even the bed linens were those of the Oliver family. Walking up the grand staircase to the third floor is just like walking into the past and the grandeur of the turn of the century.
