Step Back Into The Past

As we go
down the hall you will notice the CARDINAL room. This
two room suite has a fireplace with an electric log, a
wonderful bay window to look over the city or just curl up
with a good book in a queen-sized brass and pewter bed. The
bathroom's antique shower fixtures and small white tiles are
reminiscent of long ago. This was originally Sam Good's room
and office.

The HUMMINGBIRD room, at one time the play room for
the children, has a Jenny Lind bed. The coziness of this
room, the uniqueness of the 180 degree radiator and the
Franklin fireplace are features that attract many guests.
The original bath with its built-in tub and fixtures add
charm.

The ORIOLE
room has an antique spoon carved bed, antique dresser and
wardrobe, and a gentlemen's chair. In contrast, there is a
modern bath with a shower.
$85

The versatile SCARLET TANAGER
room may be made into a king bed or a set of twin beds. The
antique dresser and piano desk add a Victorian flair to the
room. The bathroom contains a shower.
$119

 |
In the
BLUEBIRD room, if you search long enough you will find a
safe tucked away in the bathroom. You may even think you can
use the call box to get the maid to bring you a wonderful
cup of hot chocolate. The Williamsburg queen bed and antique
dresser along with two comfy chairs encourage you to sit and
relax awhile.
$109

 |
The EAGLES NEST
suite was the butler's quarters. A brass queen-size bed, an
antique dresser and a love seat add greatly to the coziness.
The second room, formerly the maid's room, is down the hall
and decked out in white wicker furniture and a blue quilt.
Because this room has no attached bathroom, it is only
rented for families or very congenial people.
$109 (2 people) $169 (4 people) |

Innkeepers
Pauline and Bob Medhurst invite you to visit and see why
Southhold Heritage Foundation calls this "a really significant
piece of architecture". Samuel Good's crystal chandeliers,
placed throughout the home, add warmth to the Victorian decor.
The Inn offers six
spacious air-conditioned bedrooms, with private baths. One
harbors Good's own wall-safe hidden behind a mirror! Guests may
relax and chat in the common rooms or on the wide porches
surrounding this historic home. They will marvel over the story
of moving Good's massive home from its original site (where
wreckers threatened it) to the West Washington historic district
near downtown South Bend.
Our guests
tell us "It's just like coming to Grandma's." Staying at the
Queen Anne Inn may bring back many memories of the past or
dreams of what you may wish you had experienced as a child. At
any rate, we want you to STEP BACK INTO THE PAST for a while.
Just imagine
you are the daughter of a gold miner and a wealthy farmer who
gave you this 9,500 sq. foot house as a wedding gift in 1893.
Dream about the music that you might have heard as Charles
Treanor, Mabel's husband, played the stringed instruments for
his family and painted the silk wallpaper that is still in the
breakfast room. Or imagine the excitement of reading in the
library which has specially designed Frank Lloyd Wright
bookcases.
Let's take a
walk up the wonderful Italian tiger oak stairs case to the
second floor. Of course, you are allowed to stop a moment for a
chocolate chip cookie in the cookie jar or a refreshing can of
juice or pop in the refrigerator.
Winter and weekday rates available . . .

On a sunny day the guests may enjoy the swing and wicker
furniture on the wrap around front porch and relax with a glass
of iced tea or lemonade. |
